Event Description

Established via legislative mandate, South Texas College opened its doors in 1993 and grew rapidly from 1,038 to over 27,000 students in just 16 years. Serving a 95 percent Hispanic student body, the college has taken bold steps to balance student access with student success.
Using South Texas College as a model, this webinar will focus on the holistic case-management approach to student advisement utilizing cross-divisional strategies and resources to ensure student engagement. The session will include a detailed description of the five-pronged approach to student advising connecting every student to the college through a faculty member, adviser, success coach, mentor, or counselor. Participants will leave with clear strategies to establish college-wide responsibility for student advisement including Faculty Advising, Beacon Mentoring, First-Time-In College Management, and At-Risk Counseling.
