College campuses are places where many people have their first experiences encountering and interacting with a wide range of people from many diverse backgrounds, experiences, and worldviews that are different from their own. Many colleges strive to educate students to develop an understanding of their personal relationship to the world’s social, cultural, political, economic, technological, and natural environments. In order to create an environment conducive to student success, faculty,…See More

Find The False Light Bulb: How Tutors Can Develop Independent Learning Using High-Impact Practices at Online-Fee/$345/Institution

October 15, 2013 from 3pm to 4:30pm
Well-meaning tutors work hard to dispense the information: they work the problem, they give the notes, they outline the chapter. They often treat their clients like little birds they feed with a great big spoon. And the clients like our big spoon. They memorize, spit it out, forget it, and move on. No wonder new books like Academically Adrift tell us that college students cannot process higher-order thinking. What are our tutors doing that actively and consistently elicits the student’s…See More

Reflective Judgment: Teaching Students To Think Critically In A Time Of Information Overload at Online/ Fee $345/Institution

October 11, 2013 from 1pm to 2:30pm
Each day, Google users perform more than 2.9 billion searches. Wikipedia claims over ten million articles in two-hundred and fifty-three languages. Today’s students have greater access to information than ever before. As Keeling (2004) articulated in Learning Reconsidered: A Campus-Wide Focus on the Student Experience, “…knowledge is no longer a scarce – or stable – commodity. (It) is changing so rapidly that specific information may become obsolete before a student graduates and has the…See More

Seven Steps To Service Learning: A Practical Approach To Course Design at Online-Fee/$345/Institution

October 3, 2013 from 1pm to 2:30pm
There is no doubt that service learning enriches traditional classroom learning and at the same time instills an important sense of civic responsibility in students. Although faculty and administrators might understand the importance of service-learning programs, they might not know where to start or how to navigate tricky and time-consuming logistics outside of the campus environment. This webinar will provide participants with an understanding of the historical context and positive effects of…See More

I would love to hear more about the process you went through to design this group and logistical details about size, when it will be run, who will run it, will you collect data, evaluation, etc. if you wouldnt mind sharing....

Thanks for the quick response. I'm not a high school but a TRiO Upward Bound program. I won't mind sponsorship as long as it is age appropriate and no tobacco, alchohl, etc ads. My program is in four Nebraska high schools. I would be interested in free resources and webinars that I can use in groups. I never have all the students together in one place. For example, the webinar I'm asking about I am thinking of using during our summer program which wll be held June-July. kr

Nice site! TargetX customizes Ning social networks for it's clients - so I'm very familiar with it. Nice use of it for a conference. We did for ours in Chicago this year as well as for an Aslanian Conference I participated in. Looking forward to meeting you!
