Overview

In light of potential health risk of exposure to second hand smoke and growing disaffection with related problems there is a trend for higher education institutions to become 100% tobacco or smoke-free . This webinar will address the pros and cons of such policies.
Objectives

You will learn the pros and cons and how institutions successfully overcome resistance to such policies. You will learn how to address important issues including rationale, enforcement, impact on students-employees-neighbors, process of policy development-implementation, use (and composition) of advisory committee.

The persons who would benefit most are administrators with responsibility for the campus environment, human resources and student behavior, respectively.
Who is the Speaker?

Ty Patterson, Director of The Center of Excellence for Tobacco-Free Campus Policy, Ozarks Technical Community College (OTC), Springfield MO. Retired July 1, 2008 as VP of Student Services at OTC after serving for thirty eight years in student services in community colleges and universities in Missouri and Kansas. He led OTC to become one of the first community colleges in the US to become tobacco-free in 2003. Since 2004 has served as Director of The Center of Excellence and assisted over 40 colleges and universities on tobacco policy. The Center hosts a one day Making Your Campus Tobacco-Free workshop annually.
